Has Tom Brady Found What He Is Looking For?

It was a record breaking night for the NFL’s biggest game. All told there were 27 different records broken. In the middle of it all was Tom Brady. His presence and performance alone were 10 of those 27 records. Clearly Tom Brady has not only reached but cemented his place in football history and joined the league of the world’s greatest athletes of all time.

But that is not all. Not by a long shot.

Along with the championship titles comes fame unparalleled. Only the most isolated people in America don’t know his name. He is in almost every newspaper, stacks of magazines, commercials, TV, and movies.

How about the money. It is none too shabby. Tom Brady is the 15th highest paid athlete in the world and has racked up a net worth of 180 million dollars.

He has a sharp looking family as well. Considering his wife, it might be that Tom is a trophy husband for Gisele Bundchen, a Brazilian model worth 380 million herself. Tom and Gisele have had two cute kids together and we can confidently say that these two children have clearly won the genetic lottery.

I didn’t even mention that most would probably consider him, oh I don’t know…good looking. It is not like he is sporting the neck beard or anything (Andrew Luck, what are you doing man).

That is a pretty amazing list. I don’t know about his IQ, but at this point, does it really matter?
It is hard to look past all of that, isn’t it? But for me, there is one thing I can’t remove from my mind as I look at this man. It is an interview Brady did with the news show 60 Minutes after he had already won 3 Super Bowls. You can see the astonishing moment in this clip, lasting just a minute and a half.

“There has got to be more than this.” said Brady.

“What is the answer?” asked the interviewer.

“I wish I knew. I wish I knew.”

What a shocking statement from the man everyone wants to be.

It is shocking, that is, if you haven’t read the book of Ecclesiastes. But if you have, you will know that Brady’s exasperation is the theme of the book. There is nothing new under the sun and it is all vanity of vanities. That comes from a man who also had it all.

So the question you should be asking as you watch the parades and trophies and accolades and White House visits is this, “Has Tom Brady found what he is looking for?” It has been more of the same since that interview; championships, money, and fame. So has he found what he is looking for? You can be sure that he has not if he is still looking under the sun.

You have to look above the sun, Tom. There is a God who stands over the sun and He alone is the one who fills all in all. You were created for Him. This God has been sustaining you in every day and every championship, but He will fill you with all fullness if He takes notice of you. Who is the one to whom this God will take notice? “But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my Word.” (Isaiah 66:2)
